Prince George, B.C.-  Fire crews responded to a reported grass fire at 5655 Cranbrook Hill Rd late this morning. Two Engines and Two Tankers responded with ten firefighters.

Fire crews were hampered by gusting winds which spread the fire quickly through old dead grass.   Fire also affected an old trailer and barn on the property, however crews quickly controlled both exposures with minimal damage.

The fire was caused by persons burning old leaves and back yard waste which the wind carried into the grass. No one was injured and damage is estimated to be in the $5000.00 range.

The Prince George Fire Rescue Service wants to remind the public that burning is restricted in many areas of Prince George and requires approval. Open burning is generally discouraged due to the inherent danger of fire spread, and its effects on air quality.

Confucious say: "not smart to burn grassy areas on windy day"
Less smart to defy the open burning ban.

Isn't that how the MacLure fire started ?
No wonder the air was crappy on Tuesday. Grrrr.
The "McLure" fire was started by a smoker who did make sure his cigarette was stomped out.
