Prince George, B.C. –The successful candidates in the northern ridings may well be decided by which party is able to get its voters out to cast ballots.

The  latest Angus Reid Survey indicates that among decided voters, the Liberals lead has been trimmed to just 3 points ( 42% to 39%) over the New Democrats.

The survey shows the economy remains the top issue and 75% of voters say the most important  trait for a premier is competence not empathy.

When it comes to which leader was best suited to handle certain issues, Gordon Campbell scored best on the economy (48%) and crime (38%) while Carole James scored 16% and 15% respectively. James was selected as the leader best suited to deal with health care (41%) and education (42%) while Campbell scored 26% and 25% on those two areas.

When it comes to handling the environment, 45% said they were not sure, or that neither leader was suited to deal with that issue.

The survey was conducted April 24-April 26th.

Very interesting, could be a tight one.
I thought publishing the results of polling during the "official" period of a BC Provincial election campaign used to be prohibited? Wasn't this long the case? If so, when did the rules change?
I would like to know where these polls are done , what people are polled, and when...I have been in this town for 35 years and have yet to to see one in action or be asked anything that could in any way be construed as a poll.
I hope this election is closer. Maybe we should change gov't every election - perhaps they wouldn't get to comfortable and would work harder for the people in their areas.
Polls really don't tell us much.
I really don't think they influence the voters very much because they have already decided who they will support, in most cases.
All the political rhetoric in the world won't change that.
What tells the tale is the ballot box on election day.
I do think that this time around there is considerable animosty being directed at the Liberals and Campbell in general.
The rhetoric being directed at the NDP is the same as it always is.
It could be a squeaker for the Liberals, or it could be a complete coup for the NDP.
I think it is that close and if the Liberlas lose, obviously they missed something in their last two terms.
In any event,it will be interesting and I like close elections.
It shows that people are paying attention and perhaps the sitting government hasn't done as good a job as it would like us to think.
Either way, poll results won't change that.
Vote with your head and keep your heart out of it.
But most importantly,VOTE!
At a time when there is so much turmoil in our global economy, every vote in every election is more important than ever.
Democracy is slowly being whittled away at over time, and voting is our greatest democratic right.
We protect that everytime we cast our ballots.
The outcome will be what it is, and it will be what the majority wanted.
Change is nothing to be afraid of,in spite of what the polticians in power like tell us.
VOTE! and you will feel good about it when your done, no matter who you vote for!

polls are statistical representation. Ask 1% to 5% of the population to speak for the entire population.

I would like to see included with polls the actual number of respondents. Was it 5, 50 or 500? Margin of error means very little when they poll a small sample group.
Why am I suddenly allowed to comment???????? Quick, must think of inflammatory comment.....
