Canfor Has New Chairman

Prince George, B.C.- For the first time in 27 years, Canfor has a new Chairman of the Board. Peter Bentley announced yesterday he was stepping down as Chairman of the Board effective immediately. He has been Chairman since 1982 and will remain as director of the Company and has been appointed Chairman Emeritus.

These Canfor strengths are a fine legacy of Peter Bentley's leadership of the Company. We are pleased that he will be remaining as a director and continuing to provide management with his guidance and support."

Mr. Ron Cliff has been appointed the Chairman of the Board of Canfor. Mr. Cliff has been a director of the Company since 1983 and was formerly Chairman of the Board of BC Gas Inc., now Terasen Inc.

The news comes as Canfor reported a first quarter loss of $58.8 millon dollars.
