Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George and District Labour Council is expressing  disappointment over the news Liberal candidates Shirley Bond and Pat Bell will not be taking part in their candidates forum set for May 6th.

Kevin Erickson, President of the Prince George and District Labour Council  there were a couple of reasons cited for the decision not to take part “The information I have been given is that there were concerns over the logistics of the forum as well as a statement that once the Advance Polls have opened they don’t do all candidate forums”

The forum would be taking place on the same day as the first advance poll for the provincial election.

The format for the event  is an open mic scenario with only the audience asking questions. The event will be moderated by George Davison of the CNC Faculty Association.
The forum will go ahead as planned on the 6th with the other candidates for the Prince George-Valemount  and  Prince George–Mackenzie ridings, Julie Carew, Tobias Lawrence,  both New Democrat candidates,  Don Roberts of the B.C. Refederation Party, Kevin Creamore and Andrej DeWolf of the Green Party as well as Gordon Dickie of the Conservatives.

It will start at 7 p.m. and will take place at the Prince George Playhouse.

I'm not surprised Pat and Shirley declined. They would have been attending a barbeque...them being the main course!
They are going to be basted anyway, if they go or don't go. So why feed their fire.
Why campaign to card carrying members of the BC Socialist Party?
I certainly wouldn't call Julie Carew or Tobias Lawrence prize packages.
I wish those two liberals would at least follow up with some key issues. No one is a "prize package" but not responding to vulnerable folks is unacceptable. I think Shirley Bond is history!
I have noticed that they manage to show up for things like the announcement of Mackenzie mill reopening. I get the feeling they are using this and other stuff as campagne fodder....look what we have done...yes once an election comes around...amazing
Did you guys read the news about if the socialist gets in the cost of a six pack will likely go up to $15.00. This is how they were going to finance the province. Funny how this gets hidden in the real talk. So the working man has to finance Carole.
All you have to do, is investigate into the province, who, has, done more for the people?, yes jobs, are involved, but, again. i say who, has done more, for the improvement of this Province.

At the private stores only. Not at the BCL stores. The private places are overpriced already, so this changes nothing.
Did anyone attend the all candidates forum on eduction at CNC last night? They were all there. The media seemed to be conspicuously absent.

I realize a lot of people vote along party lines and probably do not change that often in their lifetime. There were a lot of well known faces in the crowd on all sides of the fence. I doubt that more than a handfull were there to listen objectively to all candidates because they were undecided.

So, what good does it do for getting your message out if there was no one there to send it out?
What is a socialist?
There were a few media folks present at the CNC all candidates forum last night. I was disappointed about the student turnout though. These forums are a bit of a joke. The audience is mostly made up of various party supporters so they're basically preaching to the converted. I sense a huge amount of apathy among the younger generation. It's not that they don't care neccessarily. I think it's because they don't feel included, heard or that their vote will make a difference. There must be a way to get them interested in their future because they are our future leaders.
Two of the three stooges not going, there probably is'nt any cameras there, they like photo ops
"there probably is'nt any cameras there"

Di you mesan to say "there probably ain't no cameras there"?
Why sit through BCTF supporters that in the past act like kids younger than they teach yell and scream the same rhetoric they have for the last 6 years. Nothing has changed. BCTF should act like grown adults and say here we have a good government (BC Liberals) that bring more jobs and opportunities to the kids the BCTF teach than any other and lets discuss how we are to tweak and fine tune the schools system together.

They (BCTF) may not know it but it takes Tax Dollars from successful businesses of all kinds to run public institutions and that ONLY occurs under a conservative type government such as the BC Liberals. The last time the NDP held power most business left or downsized. The mining industry completely left! Let’s not ‘Take BC back’ to 2001.
A Socialist is a Government worker, or a Union Executive worker, School teacher, etc; who beleives that it is their God given right to have a high paying job, with all the benefits, with good holidays, and no chance of lay-off for thirty years, then a great indexed pension.

All paid for by the regular workers and business, through their taxes.
I am sure glad Gordo is looking after the welfare of our children. BC has had the highest poverty rate in Canada for the last 5 years. Sorry - those are Harpers numbers that reported this new record for the local liberals.
Mr Bell didn't attend the annoucement at the Canfor mill!! He held a press conference in front of the town hall! Gets one wondering why, if he had so might to do with the mill reopening that he was there! We have never seen so much of Pat like we have in last month, and I'm talking about the last 8 years! Has one wondering if he thinks he might have some issues with the folks in Mackenzie in the coming election!!
The same thing is happening in Vancouver. When candidates refuse to attend public meetings, it is usually because the party leader doesn't want the issues fully stated. That would put the party on the defensive.
Mr Campbell most likely told them they coul'nt go.
As I see it this is just another good reason to vote to reform our electoral processes. Under the current system (first past the post) the ruling party apparently doesn't need to listen to all of us, because it has shored up enough of a percentage of votes to guarantee it will be elected in this region on May 12. Choosing the Single Transferable Vote (STV) on May 12 will make all our votes count and ensure all our voices are represented in the legislature.
