Prince George, B.C.- The request for proposals has been issued for the engineering consulting services for the design and construction management of the two phase plan to upgrade River Road.
The two phase project has an estimated cost of just under $7.5 million dollars. In late March, the City received funding of just over $3.5 million under the Asia-pacific gateway Initiative Transportation Infrastructure Fund. The City has approved borrowing $3.9 million for the project.
The first phase would cover the 1.9 km stretch from the Cameron Street Bridge to Foley Crescent. The first phase will have to be completed before the end of the 2009 construction season and enough engineering work to have been done on phase two ( Foley Crescent to CN Fraser River Bridge 1.7 km) to get a jump start on the construction season of 2010.
Under the terms of the RFP, the successful proponent will develop a detailed design that will “achieve the recommended 200 year flood plain elevations” as well as identify encroachment issues that arise because of the road being widened and upgraded to a collector standard, and provide for the revision of existing driveways and access points and storm and groundwater management.
The completed River Road cross section will have a paved surface with a3.75 m wide travel lanes and 2 meter wide shoulder/bike lanes.
