Prince George- There is no estimate of damage in a fire that took crews from three fire halls to bring under control at Canfor’s Rustad Mill last night.

Rustad crews were able to confine the fire to the immediate area of the planer until 16 fire fighters arrived to battle the blaze.

The fire fighters were able to bring the blaze under control without having the fire spread from the planer. No one was injured in the fire that broke out at 10:30 pm. It took crews 1 hour and 15 minutes to bring the flames under control.

When $$ is tight at canfor which seems like always.. Clean up crews and maintenance crews are the first to be cut. Worn bearings covered in sawdust usually cause alot of fires in mills. Ahhh memories of cleaning up Canfor FSJ...
A fire might be a good thing in tough times.
A fire might not be a bad thing??? It wasn't that long ago that a fire took NCP another mill of Canfor's. It wasn't rebuilt and all those people were without work. Who's to say that Canfor won't make the decision not to repair the damage to the planer and choose instead to close Rustad's?
