Prince George, B.C.- Get ready to peddle!
A province-wide event that encourages local people to commute to work by cycle is coming to Prince George for the first time tomorrow through to the 17th.

It’s Bike to Work Week, an event that began in Victoria over a decade ago and has since spread to other BC communities to encourage healthy lifestyles and cleaner environment through the use of bicycles for transportation.

Jillian Merrick, Chair of Bike to Work Prince George’s organizing committee, says there are many challenges cyclists face in Prince George, but getting residents out on cycle can only lead to good things. “Cycling to work is a great way to stay active, save money, and save time. By biking to work you are getting your daily recommended physical activity, avoiding the expense of driving your car, and eliminating the need for the gym.”

Throughout the week, Celebration Stations in locations across the city will provide support to cyclists participating in the event. At the stations, participating cyclists will have access to free food and beverage, prize draws, freebies, moral and technical support, route planning advise, and more.

Participating cyclists and their bikes will also have free access to public transit throughout the week upon display of their Bike to Work Week participant stickers.

The kick-off event will start at 7:30am, tomorrow morning at the Celebration Station in front of 94x and the Wolf radio stations on 3rd Ave.
The Celebration Station will then move to Spruceland Mall on Tuesday and Ferry Ave on Wednesday.

A wrap-up BBQ to reward all participants for their hard work is planned for Thursday May 14th from 3:00-6:00 on the front lawn of City Hall.

Just stay in the bike lanes, that's what they're for. Drive down Foothills between 1st and 15th you'd never know there was a bike lane, think they use it? Not that I see they like to ride three abreast and take up a traffic lane too. And follow thew rules of the road. Red lights mean stop.
If I had work to bike to????
Hope they pay attention to the rules of the road. So far I have almost nailed two with the cute outfits.
People hear are to lazy and fat to cycle to work. There may be a lot of heart attacks tomorrow. LMFAO

Cycling up to UNBC from 15th needs a strong heart. The road up to there is also one of the most polluted for cycling, perhaps wearing a mask or going through the extension of Massey drive will be cleaner.
