Prince George, B.C.- The Mayor of Prince George, Dan Rogers, was under pressure from callers to the Meisner program this morning to put the focus of spending on the roads.
Roads remain a priority for Prince George Mayor Dan Rogers, “I was quite happy to see the asphalt plants up and running and the paving crews out this morning” said Rogers on the Meisner program on 93.1 CFIS FM this morning.
The Mayor says there is no question there is a long way to go before roads in Prince George are in the condition they should be “I am not happy with the roads, but through the budget process we were able to increase the amount from $2.9 million to $3.2 million. That’s a 10% increase. I wanted to increase our road rehab budget by 10% a year for three years. We should be spending $3.6 million and I think we will meet or exceed that.”
The planned RCMP building was another hot topic. That facility carries an estimated price tag of $46 million dollars. Reacting to criticism that the building need not have the gardens, the glass and the atrium, Mayor Rogers says the elements should improve the atmosphere “These buildings need to be efficient, positive places to work.” By making the buildings efficient and positive places to work, Mayor Rogers says that would go a long way to improve recruitment and retention of officers. He says ultimately the decision abaout borrowing the money to build the facility will be the taxpayers, as there will have to be an alternate approval process before the City could borrow the money needed for that project.
As the new Council settles in, Mayor Rogers says they are working hard towards their promise of fiscal responsibility “We as a large major urban Centre have a lot of needs and certainly some of the new Councilors are seeing how difficult it is to balance those needs.”

Lets hope that the roads actually show improvement when all is said and done because between you and the Regional District you have raped the people with sickening tax increases. When everyone is suffering with the high cost of living and no increases in wages you gouge. I am taking the above statement as WE can expect another 10% tax hick for the next 3 years as well. Maybe you will have some money left to pave your 5m wide x 11klm long fancy trail at the end of it. Our road is full of pot holes and we have no sidewalk but OH WELL.
This council has already failed in my eyes and we need to suffer with you for far to long. All your promisses at election time was just dribble.
