VICTORIA – The interim result in one of the two closest races in the province has changed following a recount in Cariboo-Chilcotin today.

Liberal candidate Donna Barnett now leads NDP candidate Charlie Wyse by 59 votes, with 977 absentee votes still to be counted in Cariboo-Chilcotin.  Vote counts at the conclusion of the recount were Barnett with 5,791 votes, Wyse with 5,732 votes and Green candidate Eli Taylor 586 votes.

Recount results in Delta South, where Liberal candidate Wally Oppal held a three-vote lead over Independent candidate Vicky Huntington after election night results, are not yet available.

Final count of absentee votes continues today in Cariboo-Chilcotin and 83 other electoral districts.  Final count will proceed in Delta South after the recount in that district is completed, likely later today.

Wyse held a 23-vote lead over Barnett after election night counting on May 12.  The 82-vote difference after the recount is attributed to calculation errors made at one voting station.

I have no doubt that this will be recounted , and recounted until the Liberals win....
Why does it take so long to count the votes in the first place. Why does it seem that the absentee ballots are just starting to be counted?
Says something about the honesty of the system....not counting the absentee ballots unles they have to???
Do they count the early votes on election night or are they put on a shelf until there is a recount as well?
but the alternative would be easier to manipulate....
The honesty of the system should not be called into question. It is a well established process to count the absentee ballots 12 days after the election if there are enough ballots to potentially change the outcome.
I would agree that all the ballots should always be counted in any event, and I would question the 12 day delay, but this doesn't mean there is something fishy about the process.
A conspiracy does not lurk behind every closed door.
I hear you justthefacts....but I think every vote should be counted before a winner is announced....otherwise I feel it says some votes count and others might...if it takes 12 days, so be it....I can wait.
I think that no canidate should be allowed to represent a district untill they have at less 51% of the support of the people in that riding. All that that would mean is that we would have to cast our vote in order of preference simaler to the stv system but retain the current electoral districts, the person with the least amount of votes would be dropped and those votes would be recounted as to their second choice.
Sorry downnotout...I don't want anyone deciding who gets my vote but me! you have stirred a thought though but we would have to go back to the voting polls many times I fear, at least in some areas, before someone would get at least 51% of the vote...i would be prepared to recast my vote on a smaller ballet listing but not prepared to go anywhere near the STV....STV means someone else choses where my vote goes......
our current system is not majority vote, it is most votes.
Imagine this 111 mystery votes showed up...for the liberal party...just like that....wonder if old Wally will get the 10 or so he needs....I say out nowhere they will appear....
Ya gotta wonder how this wide difference could happen between the first and second count?
You would think that errors would be proportional. You would think that incompetance would also be proportional.

How can this happen unless someone actually cheats the count in favour or against someone?.
It can't in my mind woochipper....something stinks...I wonder if all the ballots have been counted or just enough for the liberals to win? How many ballot boxes are yet to be discoverd and counted? I doubt we will ever know...
