Donna Barnett Takes Cariboo -Chilcotin

VICTORIA – Liberal candidate Donna Barnett was declared elected in Cariboo-Chilcotin after the final count of all ballots in that district ended today.
Barnett leads NDP candidate Charlie Wyse 6,259 votes to 6,171 votes following a recount of the election night tally and final count of 977 absentee ballots. Wyse led by 23 votes on election night May 12.
A judicial recount would be required in Cariboo-Chilcotin if the difference in votes between the top two candidates was less than 1/500 or .2% of the total ballots considered, but Barnett’s 88-vote lead is beyond that threshold.
Wyse may still apply for a judicial recount to the Supreme Court of B.C. within six days if he can demonstrate that votes were not properly counted or ballots were not correctly accepted or rejected.
In Delta South, Independent candidate Vicki Huntington leads Liberal candidate Wally Oppal 9,760 votes to 9,746 votes following a recount and a partial count of 918 absentee ballots. Oppal led by three votes on election night. The absentee count in Delta South is expected to end this afternoon.
Final count of absentee ballots in all 85 electoral districts for the general election and referendum on electoral reform will be completed Wednesday
