Vanderhoof, B.C.-  The Mayor of Vanderhoof says he's concerned about the amount of petty crime occuring in the community.

Gerry Thiessen says he believes bringing in more experienced RCMP officers may help with community concerns.

Thiessen says the police in Vanderhoof do a good job, but he says they are a young group that could benefit from some veteran experience.

"That's something that happens as time goes on.  Right now, they're going through a time of retirement.  We do need, at this point, to have some more RCMP members in our community, especially in the area of trained RCMP."

He says council's role can help keep officers in Vanderhoof longer by making it a more attractive place to stay. Thiessen says one improvement that council is considering is an aquatic centre.

"Our pool committee has just had its first meeting looking to see if an aquatic centre is an option in our community.  And so that would certainly be a big help to have activities for young families if they move to Vanderhoof."

As for the concern about petty crime, Thiessen says council has worked with community groups to cut down the number of incidents, which he says often occur during the summer months.

There we go again, we turned this down more then once, read my Lips no more new Taxes, if you do want a Pool make it user pay only.
Every Year new Charges are added to my Taxes, Pensioners are not made out of money!
Didn't taxes in Vanderhoof go down or stay the same this year?
Ours went up by a few Dollars, but we don't live in Town, so I can't speak for Village Taxes, the Point is if the Village wants a Pool let them pay for it .The Regional District should stay out of Towns Tax Base and mind there own!
I do have all those Charges on my Tax-Notice even one for Police , I guess Fraser Fort Georges is different , this was just about a Pool for a small Place like Vanderhoof, I really think it's to much for such a small Base of Taxpayers.
