Williams Lake, B.C.-  Residents affected by the Buffalo Creek wildfire have been allowed to return to their homes after officials downgraded an evacuation order to an alert yesterday.

Officials say approximately 54 residents living between Jones Road and Buffalo Creek Road had to leave their homes because of the fire east of 100 Mile House.  An evacuation alert for residents in the Forest Grove area has now been rescinded.

The Cariboo Fire Centre says the Buffalo Creek fire claimed two homes, but is now 100% guarded.

Officials say crews have also made good progress on a fire in the Chezacut Road area west of Alexis Creek.  The wildfire is now 100% contained and crews continue to monitor and mop up any hot spots .

The Cariboo Fire Centre has dealt with 75 fires since April 1st.  All but one of the blazes has been cause by humans.

Meantime, a forest fire near Tyaughton Lake, 65 km west of Lillooet, is now estimated at 150 hectares in size.  The Kamloops Fire Centre says there are structures near the fire, but they are not in any immediate danger.

Officials says the conditions in the area are drier than usual at this time of year and there could be more wildfire activity as the weather is expected to remain sunny and warm over the next week or so.

I find it rather sad that most of the forest fires are still caused by humans.
You'd think that people would be smarter.
I think the penalties for causing a fire should be harsher, how else will some of these people learn?
