Barkerville Sees Boost to Visits
By 250 News
Wells, B.C.- Visits to Barkerville Historic Town are up so far this season compared to last year.
Visitor Programs Manager Robin Sharpe says the tourist attraction has only been open a few weeks, but he's noticed a strong spike in visits already. Sharpe says last year's visitor numbers took a hit, dropping by 8% compared to 2007 as a total of 67-thousand people came though the gate.
Sharpe says many of the visitors are local, but that trend is starting to shift.
"The majority of our visitors come from the local area from Prince George, Quesnel, Williams Lake throughout the Cariboo area. But we also get a lot of visitors from Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, and in the last few years we've seen a real trend of people coming from Alberta over to visit as as well."
Sharpe says there's also been an increase in the number of school program and bus tour bookings.
