Kamloops, B.C.- The BC Forest Service says a fire near Tyaughton Lake, 65 km west of Lillooet has grown to approximately 550 hectares.

A total of 49 fire fighters, 5 helicopters, heavy machinery and air tankers are taking on the fire. A new incident management team will replace the command structure and a fire camp is also on the way.

Officials says the wind pushed the fire south towards Carpenter Lake and crews are hopeful that the lake will act as a natural barrier will prevent further spread.

An evacuation was issued for the properties west of Pearson Pond along Gun Lake Road, from the intersection of Tyaughton Lake Road and Gun Lake Road to Lick Creek approximately 5.5 km to the west. There is also an evacuation alert in order for the surrounding areas.

A reception centre has been set up for affected residents in Lillooet.
