Prince George, B.C.- May 2009 was a cold one as it struggled to fit into what should have been Spring. Environment Canada Meteorologist, Jim Steele, says cooler temps seemed to be much more prevalent than the typical days of Spring although he notes there were some warm ones.
Here is his monthly report:
The low point seems to occur between the 11th and the 20th with a very cool wet period. Conditions moderated during the last week with temperature climbing above the 20 degree mark on several days. The warmest day was on the 29th with a 26 degree afternoon reading.
The precipitation part of things seemed to be more common than not with 17 days during the month seeing measureable amounts. The real wet period, between the 11th and the 19th brought copious amounts with 50.4 mm rain and melted snow. The 2 days that stand out, the 11th with 16.4 mm of rain and then the 19th with 6.7 cm of wet snow combined with 12.6 mm of rain producing a daily total of 19.3 mm.
On the brighter side, the last week was relatively dry with but still not without the odd sprinkle.
In the end, the month was a cool and wet one. A new month, June, one hopes for a turn around to more summer like conditions. We can always hope !!
