To Sell or Not to Sell

Members of the Prince George Golf and Curling Club gather this evening to vote on  the possible selling of the existing site to Alberta based Pomeroy Group for $15 million, and buy a new chunk of property and rebuild.

The members know something has to be done, either take the money  and build a new course, or, spend money trying to rehabiitate the existing course left badly damaged by the march of the mountain pine beetle.  The cost to bring the current site up to snuff  is  just under $4 million dollars  and the  the  golf course already has a debt of about $1 million.  Repairing and maintenance of the current course would mean a boost in membership fees.

There has been a great deal of talk about the golf Course buying a piece of property on  Foothills Boulevard between North Nechako Road and Highland Drive.  The site may be one  members like, however, there is no offer to purchase on the table, nor could an offer be made until the  PGGCC votes on the possible sale of the existing site.

If the current  site is to be sold, there must be strong support, as the vote  has to  be 75% in favour  of  that  move  in order to be approved.

The members will vote it down because they think they should be entitled to more $$$ Then the Pomeroy group will say "OK see you folks later"then there will be no buyers for the property and the city and it's tax payors will be screwed again by the so called eliteist golf crowd.I hope I'm dead wrong but this IMO is what I think will happen.
Rock
If they do move I expect to see no taxpayers subsidies and PGGCC paying full taxes to the city like any other business.
I don't understand why they need trees on the course .....

Pineview subdivision does not have nice scenery. The scenery is much nicer at the Foothills locations thus I think they will vote for scenery.

I hope the taxpayer is not funding this, and I hope the taxpayer recieves some form of payment for the property from the golf course.
I understood from reports that the feds gave the property to the City when they moved the airport under the condition it be used for recreational use. So, I guess someone will be using the property for an ice oval, roller skating rink, performing arts theatre, community recreation centres including indoor/outdoor tennis courts, squash and raquet courts, swimming pool, curling rink, lawn bowling, etc. all sitting in a rebuilt landscaped area with walking and biking paths, pond with willows and ducks for rental row boats, year-round small amusement rides for families with children and lots of access for the elderly to participate at their level of activity and watch the community at play.
