Prince George, B.C. Downtown Prince George has set  two Open House events to discuss the plan to revive the Downtown Business Improvement  Area of Prince George.  The open houses come in the wake of a luncheon which saw the  launch of  the  renewal plan.

The Open Houses are scheduled for Thursday, June 4 and Tuesday June  9, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm both days at the Ramada Hotel, Cranbrook Room.

"It's a process," says Kirk Gable, president of Downtown Prince  George, "and we're just at the beginning right now. Hopefully we can  have some good conversations and collect some good feedback so we can
present a plan to the Downtown property owners that they will gladly  support. We're trying to have as open and as consultative process as  possible, and everyone is welcome to come down and offer their
thoughts."

The Downtown Prince George Renewal Plan 2010-2014 is available to  download and view by going to www.downtownpg.com and following the  links. Feedback can also be submitted online, and a feedback form is
available for download as well.

The renewal plan calls for the hiring of an Executive director, a Marketing and events Manager and Safety person.  It  also calls for spending  $250 thousand  ( shared 50-50 with the City) for a Host  program  that would see "hosts"  in the downtown area, acting as eyes and ears for the police as well as assisting anyone  in need.

Gable told those who attended the  launch session that based on the current assessed values of C-1 zoned properties in the downtown area, each property owner in the  DBIA would be required to pay about $2.23 per thousand dollars of assessment.

I think they are flogging a dead horse...there has been way too much talk and so little action....and now more talk....they will never get me into the downtown core....
"You said it BCRacer"
I gave up two years ago.

Not building shelters on every corner would be a start! Needle exchange and other non Businesses are IMO turning this city into the run down place that we earned the reputation for.

Burnt buildings, gaping craters of prior buildings, drunks, and drug dealers on every corner.
I think i just saved a few grand of research here! stop what you planners are doing! IT IS NOT WORKING! CLEAN IT UP! Simple..

chain gangs for the needy! Earn your keep.
Give it up already, I've been hearing this crap for years. If they actually spent some of the money they have spend for studies and other BS things, they might have actually had something done by now.
They are fighting a losing battle. They say it's a "process". I've been watching that process for years and it's not working. Drunks, drug addicts, bullies, are just a few of the people who linger on every corner. Burned out buildings, run down store fronts, and filthy sidewalks are just a few of the things you have to look forward to if you want to go downtown. I would like to know why they are allowed to be drunk in a public place, and continue to drink out of the paperbag bottle in public and harrass people as they walk by. Also, if you are entering that needle exchange to get a clean needle, would it be safe to say you might have drugs on you? Are drugs illegal? Why don't they arrest them as they come out and go into the alley to shoot up?? We are fighting a losing cause. These drug addicts, and thieves and bullies have more rights than any of us who work, and live by the rules. So go ahead and hire more consultants, form yet another "group" and we will all still be staring at that crap hole downtown for another 10 years. Sometimes you have to remove the junk before you can paint a room.
well said PG GIRL 2, remove the junk first, then repaint! But, you did forget one thing, the "JUNK" downtown has rights, and there is the problem!! The bleeding hearts are what has to go first, then we can take care of the rubbish!
What a joke. First of all if you want to improve downtown, how about getting rid of the homeless shelters. But unfortunatley anywhere you move the shelters the new destination will now be tainted. Spend that 250 000 on beefed up foot patrol in that area. Drug deals, drug users, prostitution is running rampant downtown.
You people live under a rock is what is wrong here. This kind of activity happens in every city no matter what. So it's time you grow up and face life on life terms. Time to wake up. If you can't handle it than put your head in the sand. It's people like you that give the city a bad name. I'm no drunk, addict or dealer. I live downtown. Not that bad for me. Mind you I don't let small stuff bother me.

The whole point here Chris is what is going on in Pg! Who cares what other cities have in common. I (we) live in PG.

We have serious issues here in PG and they need to be dealt with!

Pull your head out of the sand and re-read all above.
Since 250 came on line this topic has been touchy! The bottom line is that, it stirs the majority.

You are very correct "Don't let the small stuff bother you"

This is a huge problem.
To spend 250K on this type of program is extremely wasteful. The police already have "Crime watch" which is already funded.
Use it.
