Prince George, B.C. – The hot dry weather is causing concern for those dealing with three wildfires in the province.

The blaze at Tyaughton Lake has been 15% contained and the evacuation order remains in effect. Resources on site today include 100 firefighters, 9 helicopters and heavy equipment. Yesterday 8 air tankers supported ground crews by laying fire retardant in the afternoon until grounding time.

Fire crews are said to be pleased with their progress as that blaze remains at 850 hectares.

Meantime, the forest fire East of Smith River and Liard River Junction along highway 97 continues to burn out of control. That fire now covers 1,000 hectares. There are n80 firegighters,  4 helicopters, and four pieces of heavy equipment working on that blaze.
Conditions around the fire are very smokey with limited visibility.
The fire is travelling northwest towards the Smith River and fire size is growing. The main priority is to try and keep the fire off the highway.

As for Buffalo Creek, north east of 100 Mile House, 40 firefighters are patrolling the area, making sure there are no hot spots. That fire is `100% contained. Fire activity has diminished and the weather looks favorable for fire suppression efforts for the day. A new estimate of 150 hectares reflects a better assessment of the fire.
