Forest Fire Grows In North, Evacuation Ordered

Prince George, B.C.-  The fire east of Smith River and Liard River Junction along highway 97 area  continues to rage.  The blaze has grown to 10,000 hectares,  and while the  flames on the souoth side of the highway have been contained, the north side grew in a northwest direction and crossed the Smith River and continues to move northwest.

About 60 people have now been forced from their homes in the communities of Fireside, Coal River and Muddy River Indian Reserve #1.  For more information call Fort Nelson Emergency Operations at 250-774-3955.
As well the highway has been closed between Watson Lake and Fort Nelson. For more information on the highway call 250-774-6956.

There are 80 firefighters, 4 helicopters and 4 peices of heavy equipment on scene.

 

Officials say they are seeing extreme fire behaviour, which is hindering suppression efforts.

Hmm, it was only ~200ha a couple of days ago... that's quite the increase.

Umm...Fireside, Coal and Muddy Rivers...what does that say about the natural disturbance patterns of the area?
History might be actually repeating itself.
I hope the buffalo are alright? They live along side the road on that highway around that spot. Very cool sight for anyone that has seen them.
