Prince George, B.C.- Another defensive prospect has signed a standard Western Hockey League player contract with the Prince George Cougars.  Dane Phaneuf has agreed to ink the dotted line with the club.

Phaneuf was the Cougars 3rd round pick, 46th overall, in the April 30th WHL Bantam Draft. The product of Edmonton stands 5’10”, weighing 150 pounds. Phaneuf played this past season for the Red Deer Bantam Rebels White of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League, going head to head with Josh Smith, the Cougars first pick in the ’09 draft, who played for the Rebels Black squad. Phaneuf produced a point per game in the AMBHL last season, collecting 3 goals and 21 assists in 24 games, while also posting 60 penalty minutes.

“We’re excited for the future for what we already have here and what we having coming in the next couple of seasons,” said Cougars General Manager Dallas Thompson. “Dane is another solid player that we’re able to add to the blue line through the draft.”
