Prince George, B.C.- Housing starts in Prince George in May were down 84% compared to the same month a year ago and the year to date starts are off nearly 76%. That’s the latest information from Canada Mortgage and Housing

The  decline is not out of line with what CMHC predicted for this year. It also predicts low mortgage interest rates and buyers’ market conditions will encourage housing purchases, which should help absorb the existing inventories of new and resale housing.

The youth population has dropped in half in the last decade in PG, and 80% of them leave town once they are out of school and on their own. PG's population has been stabilized somewhat by new people that move to the city and not by the city retaining its youth.

PG's future should be built on quality of life IMO, because unless people want to live here this city has a dwindling future much like its housing industry.
I agree Eagleone. When I did not live here all I heard about PG is how dirty and stinky it was. The winters can be very long and most of the time Whitehorse is warmer than here. Now that I live here though I see things different than what I had heard. Yes sometimes depending on where you live it stinks and yes it's not a pretty city but when I sit out on my deck in the morning with my coffee and I hear all the birds and smell all the flowers in bloom I'm in heaven. :}
