Prince George, B.C.- Summer hasn't officially arrived yet but the  prize book for the late summer PGX has been issued.

This year the fair will be one day longer, expanded from four days to five this year, the gates open on Wednesday August 12, 2009.

The Home Arts & Horticulture division of the PGX is an agricultural cornerstone with roots going back almost a hundred years in the community and organizers encourage people to “Show their Stuff” at the fair. There are more than 400 categories that can be entered from recycling, knit items, baking and woodworking to homemade wine, honey, amateur photography, pottery and potted plants to creative writing and organic growing. All of these opportunities are brought together and illustrated in the annual Prize Book, which is out and about now at select locations, online at www.pg-x.com  or at the PGX general office.

The Home Arts Entries will be showcased in Kin III this year and the Horticulture Entries in Kin II.   The impressive and popular Quilt Fair is back with hundreds of Entries expected in addition to quilting workshops and demonstrations. The Communities in Bloom and the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society organizations have partnered to spearhead the Horticulture portion of classes and will be providing demonstrations and workshops and judging by Master Gardeners. The deadline for entries in the majority of the sections in Home Arts & Horticulture is August 7, 2009.

Another popular section of the Prize Book is the Youth in Agriculture classes which includes the Zany Zucchini Contest. For a one dollar entry fee kids in Kindergarten to grade 7 will receive everything needed to grow a zany zucchini and enter it into the fair. Kits include peat pots, soil, seeds, helpful hints, judging criteria and a complimentary pass to the PGX. Prizes awarded following the judging of Zany Zucchini entries include $50.00 and ribbon for first place, $25.00 and ribbon for 2nd place and $15.00 and a ribbon for 3rd place. The deadline for entry into the Zany Zucchini contest is on or before Saturday June 20th, 2009 at the PGX office.
