Single engine Plane Crashes South of Chetwynd

Chetwynd, B.C.- One person has died in a small plan crash south of Chetwynd.  A single engine plane crashed  around 2:15 Friday afternoon.  The plane was  located off the west side of Highway 29 South, near Curtis Road, approximately 10 km south of Chetwynd.

It has been confirmed that there were two occupants in the small plane at the time of the crash.

Two men from Southern B.C. and were travelling from the North West Territories and headed back to the interior of British Columbia. The pilot of the plane succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The passenger was able to make a call for help. He then made his way out to the highway, where he met with police and was transported by the BC Ambulance Service to the Chetwynd District Hospital. He was treated for minor injuries. The lone survivor has since been released from the hospital.

The South Peace Traffic Services are assisting the Chetwynd RCMP in the investigation. The Collision Reconstructionist remains on the scene, identifying and documenting the physical evidence associated to the crash. This crash forensic evidence team will conduct a full investigation of the site, which will take several hours.

The names of the occupants of the plane are not being released at this time.

Little information is known at this time as to what caused the aircraft to crash and further details will emerge as the investigation continues.

The Transportation Safety Board has been advised of this incident. The Chetwynd RCMP is currently working with the BC Coroners Service to establish what the contributing factors were in this crash.
