Prince George,B.C.-  Two projects that are to mitigate erosion of river banks have been given the gree light by the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.

The Regional District has  approved an agreement with the Miworth Community Association that calls on the Association to provide project management for a $455,079 project to add 185 metres of rock armouring along the bank of the Nechako River in Miworth. The Provincial Flood Protection Program is providing 90% of the project costs, with the remaining 10% funded locally.

Funding from the same program has also been received to support a similar project in Shelley, along the Fraser River.

The total cost of the project in Shelley is just over $1 million.  Again, 90% of that will come from the provincial program, leaving over $100,000 to be funded locally. At a community meeting on June 16, residents in the affected area agreed to look at parcel taxes to cover the cost.

The Regional District will now move ahead with a petition to those residents to determine the support for a parcel tax. The Board will also review draft service establishment and loan authorization bylaws at the next meeting.

And we complain about being over taxed..... it all comes back!
The Lords giveth, and the Lords taketh away...
Why are we paying even 10%? We shouldn't be paying any from the local purse. The provincial purse is ours too.
