Prince George, B.C.- After 25 years of being the General Manager of the Pine Centre Mall in Prince George, Rick Nelson  is planning his retirement.
“I have given notice that I will retire in September” says Nelson “That should give the new manager time to sell a home, and, if necessary,  make plans to have their children registered for school.”
Nelson has been at the helm during the mall’s most recent incarnation which saw major renovations, and the addition of some satellite operations on the property. A specialty liquor store, Starbucks, the T.D. Bank, the Royal Bank, were all added within the past three years.
There are other plans in the works for new tenants, but Nelson never tips his hand.
As for why he is retiring, “It’s time” says Nelson who says he does own some property in Kamloops and that will likely be his new home.

Good for him. He'll enjoy a clean city, nice roads and even a downtown you can go to.
A nice guy. Our loss is Kamloops' gain.
Happy fishing Rick!
metalman.
Rick Nelson is a classy guy. He will be a tough act to follow. Without a doubt, this will be Kamloops gain and a loss for PG.
Thanks for all you have done Rick, see you in Kamloops!
"opinionated" PG is a loss, there is nothing left here, period!!
For those who watch David Letterman, you will have heard his tales of potholes in New York City.

I went looking for that on the net and dicovered this little gem of a report from a law firm. Worth a read and a chuckle.

then there is this from the Kamloops mayor's 2009 State of the City speech:
"One gem that good(sic) a good reaction: the Mayor's glee over the new pothole fixing machine the city is buying that will fix potholes much more reliably in the winter months."

Sorry Gus, but this is about Rick Nelson and about his contribution as a fine citizen and respected businessman of PG not about pot holes or anything else.Rick is just an all around good guy.
rick is a great guy. He sure has made some great changes to the mall. The food court is terrific, the new shops trendy...wow, I hope whoever takes over can be as beneficial to the mall. They wil find they have very large shoes to fil
Rick is one of the many great people who live in Prince George who work primarily behind the scenes.

We either never hear their names, or rarely hear of them. When we do in association with something a bit more public, we often do not know what they do for a living.

It is the many Rick Nelson's who simply do their jobs the best way they know how and, in doing so, keep things functioning, alive, and moving along. They are typically not controversial, they are typically not into our taxpayer pockets, and they typically live a very private life.

I have a feeling that people like Rick would prefer to sneak out quitly to the places of their dreams whether they have fewer potholes or not.
Rick Nelson gave PG 25 years of his life in his role at the Pine Centre. We appreciate his contributions, we celebrate his successes and we congratulate him for sharing this part of his life with us in PG. All the best where ever you go.
