Prince George, B.C.- Northern Health says it is business as usual for anyone needing tests that require nuclear isotopes.
Northern Health has secured an alternate supply of isotopes from the Netherlands. Communications person, Eryn Collins says the supply means Northern Health will be able to carry out diagnostic testing at its normal operating capacity.
A national shortage of isotopes was feared when the Chalk River reactor in Ontario was shut down unexpectedly.
The province of Saskatchewan, which produces about 25% of the uranium used in the world, is now talking about trying to set up a nuclear research centre at the University of Saskatchewan which would be an alternate isotope supplier.
