Prince George, B.C.-  Last November, the Province of B.C. announced the Financial Hardship Property Tax Deferment program.

Under the program, eligible homeowners who are facing financial difficulties due to the current economic conditions, can defer their 2009 and 2010 property taxes.

The Province started accepting applications for the special program June 5th, and so far, just 96 applications have been filed.

There is still an opportunity to apply, you can find more information on the program by clicking here.

Wonder whatever happened to "Tax CUTS work"? Now we're getting, "You can pay me now", (with money you haven't got), "or pay me later", (with money you still won't have). Seems like a pretty poor substitute to me.
Hmmm, seems like another way to charge interest.

If I was running the financial for the city, and looking at all these projects. I would look at offering municipal bonds. I think this could be a way to raise money, and make it possible for local people to make money instead of watching their tax money being paid to the big banks.
Proof that despite all the b!tch!ng about high property taxes.......they are not that high.
Going to be a few property tax home sales in 2011 when it all comes due (3 years of taxation).
Only if I can get a deal like Lyin' Brian did with his dough.
PaysHisOwnWay you are right on track. I agree property taxes are where they should be. Dare I say it, I think they could be a little higher....

I really think the people that whine and complain about taxes and high gas prices don't have hollow arguments.

We sure get a lot of things for our tax dollars. Just think about what things you would have if the government didn't look after it's citizens.

roads, bridges, healthcare, ambulances, rcmp, airports, schools, post secondary, etc etc etc.

Don't forget Canada is still one of the best places to live on the planet.

Is it perfect, no, but live in another country for a while and maybe you will see we got it pretty good. Even in PG
oops my second paragraph needs a small correction....haha

Must be nice to have so much money that taxes don't bother you. Unfortunately, everyone is not in that situation; especially some seniors(me included) And please don't give me the crap about Canada being the best place to live. We continuously change our laws and lose more of our identity to suit immigrants from the east. The government continues to plunder the hell out of us. What they can't take by force, they take by legislation. Right now they are planning to make North America borderless and have a dollar called the Amero. Our money will be contolled by the rich -- same as in the USA. The US government does not own the federal reserve. It is owned by the Rocerfellers, Morgans, etc. We will one day be in the same boat.
The tax deferral plan doesn't work for one simple reason... you have to have 25% equity in your home to met the criteria for an application... if a person has 25% equity in their home they don't likely need the tax deferral because they can access their equity at a better interest rate...

IMO its the people without the 25% equity that could use this program because they are the least established and thus the most hurt by the economic downturn... this does nothing for them and thus is more about politics then truly helping the needy in a bind.
