Prince George, B.C. – The Province has released the latest Major Projects Inventory report, and it shows there isn’t too much on the books for the Prince George area which is classified as the Cariboo Development region.

The report shows that in the first quarter of this year, there were no new projects proposed or started in the region and the only one on the books as “completed” is the expansion of the Prince George Airport.
While the report boasts that “Eight hundred and ninety-two major capital projects, worth an estimated $184.2 billion, were planned or underway across B.C. between January and March 2009” the accuracy of that statement must be challenged. There are some glaring errors just in the Prince George figures. One project is listed twice under two names (adding $42 million to the construction total) and the Cameron Street Bridge project is listed as being worth $35 million, when the actual construction cost will come in under $10 million.
Outside the lower mainland, projects have to be worth $15 million or more to be on the list.

Here are the projects in the Prince George area which are already on the books.   *Note, although some have cost estimates, those estimates may be outdated.

A useless list IMO other then as a heads up to what the powers that be have planned with our tax dollars... ie the museum expansion? PAC? and what about the RCMP building at $30 Million?

The big disappointment IMO is the Giscome lime rock quarry not yet going ahead. That IMO, next to bio-energy, is the biggest potential future economic driver in our region.
The list has NEVER been anywhere near accurate. Something goes on the list and is never updated.

I know I used to get calls from them on a couple of project I worked on some decades ago. Other than the original information they received through clipping services probably, the updates I told them about were never entered.
I just looked at the actual list for the fun of it again.

I wonder if a news story would not be one which would deal with why this list continues to be so inaccurate.

Why does it say that the Inn expansion of 75 room was followed up in March of 2009? Who did they talk to? Is there really a plan for the short term to expand that hotel, jsut as a for instance? That has been the story for decades now. At one time they were going to build a second tower on the property where Golds Gym is now located.
Elections are over aren't they?
