It's expected that tomorrow's nomination meeting for the federal New Democrats may turn into an acclamation meeting...

So far, NDP Riding Association President, Victor Johnson, says only one person has expressed an interest in running in the January 23rd election and the nomination deadline is noon today.

"The person who has expressed his interest is a fellow named Alfred Trudeau.  He's a mill worker in Quesnel."  Johnson says Trudeau actuallly contested the nominations results prior to the last federal election in June of 2004, which saw Rick Smith of Prince George represent the party.  Smith drew the second largest number of votes in that election -- 11,183 to the 19,721 votes for incumbent Conservative M.P. Dick Harris.

Johnson says, as per the party's wishes, the hunt has been on for a candidate, "But, like I say, we've been doing an extensive search and no one else has been willing to run."

The nomination meeting goes at 3pm in the Red Bluff Hall in Quesnel.
