Invasive Plant Training Underway

Prince George, B.C. - The Invasive Plant Council of BC and the Community Development Trust are offering training to unemployed resource workers in Prince George this week.
The Invasive Plant Training Program offers people skills development in identifying invasive plants, monitoring techniques, inventory skills, monitoring techniques, and herbicide application methods.
Northwest Invasive Plant Council Manager Andrea Eastham says it's a win-win situation for the industry and workers looking for additional skills.
"It's a sector where we don't have many skilled employees, so there was a void there. What they are trying to do is give people the basics so that they can be invasive plant workers, whether that's their full time job or it's part of another job. But it will give them the skills to possibly gain employment in that area."
Training is valued at $1000. Participants will receive a Training Certificate upon successful program completion, and may be eligible for continuing education credits.
Eastham says the participants will have a set of skills that will be highly valued by invasive plant managers in BC.
The training is also being rolled out in Castlegar, Cranbrook, Kamloops, Vernon, Penticton, Courtenay and Terrace this month.
