Prince George, B.C. - The first annual Prince George Firefighters Burn Fund Cycle Tour is being called a success.

Five members of the PG Fire Rescue Pedaled to Dragon Lake and back on July 2nd and 3rd.  The group managed to raise approximately $7000 on the tour, but the money is still being counted.

Firefighter Kelly Henderson says both days consisted of approximately 5 hours of riding. Day 1 saw the riders average 27.3 km/hr with 4 hours 50 minutes of riding time. On Day 2, the riders battled a slight headwind averaging 25.1 km/hr over 5 hours and 12 minutes of riding time.

Henderson says he hopes the tour will happen annually and continue to grow next year.

The money raised in the event goes to burn research at Vancouver General Hospital which will help burn survivors from the north as well.

A car wash and open house has been scheduled for July 18th at the fire hall located at Fifth Avenue and Ospika Boulevard.

Isn't it ironic that so many headlines on this site (Opinion 250) that have negative or controversial headers, have so many comments, and a super good story like this gets almost none. Super job PGFD and I will be one of those having my car washed on July 18. Perhaps,(For an extra donation), a view from Ladder 21?
