Prince George, B.C. - Emergency first responders like the RCMP, firefighters, and paramedics are engaged in a friendly competition to see which group can donate the most blood in Prince George.  The third annual Canadian Blood Services "Sirens for Life" campaign kicked off today.

The first person to roll up her sleeve and donate was RCMP dispatcher Crystal Mackill.  Her son Wyatt needed numerous units of blood and blood products when he underwent heart surgery at just 2 weeks old.  Canadian Blood Services Community Coordinator Tamara Sweet says Crystal believes that without donations, her son would not be alive today.

Sweet says you don't have to be an emergency services worker to donate blood during the campaign.  She's encouraging family, friends, and the general public to book an appointment to donate blood on behalf of their chosen service provider.

Call 1-888-2-DONATE to book an appointment.

C'mon Opinion 250ers lets see how many of us can help out with this challenge...I've got an appt. tomorrow - it will be my first time donating.
I would love to donate blood. I have RH O Negitive Blood, a type they want but due to the fact I am 65 years old and have never donated before they don't want me. I am in the early stages of Hemochromatosis for which the treatment is to go to the Hospital where they remove some blood so it sad that my blood has to be dumped down the drain.
I donate every 8 weeks and have an appointment today. You have not lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you. It is too bad you can't donate bitter. It's Health Canada's rules though, not Canadian Blood Services. They's love to take your blood.
