Fort Saint John, B.C. - RCMP are reminding people to lock up their vehicles after a number of early morning incidents in the community.

Police were called to the area of 88th Avenue and 80th Street at approximately 3:30 after public calls about some suspicious males opening car doors.  Mounties found that a number of vehicles in the vicinity had doors open and left ajar.

Officers canvassed the area and determined that nothing was taken from the vehicles.  Police are still investigating the incidents.

Police say the best way to deter thieves is to keep vehicles locked and to make sure you remove all valuables from inside.

RCMP say not securing a vehicle is an offence under the Motor Vehicle Act and comes with a fine of $81.

Call police or Crimestoppers with any tips.

Sure fine the vechile owner. It's easier than catching the crooks.
Isn't that something.I guess the best thing to do then is just beat the crap out of the crooks if you catch them instead of calling the cops.It is time for a little old fashioned vigilante justice
Is there a fine for leaving a 20 spot under the windshield wipers for buddy to go get a rock, that way he leaves your car alone ??

Or maybe we are expected to go get it for him because the crack house is too far to walk to, therefore, he needs to steal your vehicle too.

It is your responsibility not to own things that can be stolen or broken into.

Apathy at it's best.

Hmmmm, makes you want to pay your taxes.

We neeed a new judicial system to protect the rights of law abiding citizens. I

If you want to live the life of a criminal, you are willing to give up the rights of a law abiding citizen.

leaving the door unlocked with nothing in the vehicle is cheaper than fixing a broken window.
seriously? they are going to fine me for leaving my car unlocked? Where the hell was common sense when that little gem of a law passed? If there is one recurring theme in crime fighting these days it is manage the law abiding folks because you cant seem to get a hold on the criminals.
Let em fine me. I drive cheap wheels and i would rather give em the change out of my ashtray than have them break my windows. Sheesh, whats next, a fine for sleeping with my window open?
Is that how you spell Fort Saint John?

You can't win. Lock your vehicle and they think you have something to hide.

Leave it open and they have a look and either leave if they are just looking for cash or something to steal. Or, if they want your vehicle, they will steal it locked or not.

$81??? System (Government) has to have some way of recouping their costs for the time RCMP spend on this mindlesss game.

How about jacking your vehicle up and putting it on blocks. Then, attach a huge chain to your rear differential and anchor it to your home. Then, alarm the vehicle, make sure you have your steering wheel lock in place and your windows are up. Don't leave anything inside that may attract any would be thief. In fact, black out all your windows so the thieves can't see in. Then, mount your survelliance camera so you can see who is attempting to steal from you. Now you need to sit up all night to watch and see who might be interested in your vehicle.

When someone shows up who may be interested in your vehicle. Calmly walk out of your house and politely ask them to keep walking.

After all, you can't accuse them, you can't hurt them, you can't report them, because they really haven't done anything wrong, so they just move on down the street to the next poor sap's vehicle who can't be bothered to go to all the effort you did to protect your own property.

There are only to ways to control people. Communism uses force. Socialism uses legislation. As long as we have socialists in power we will be controlled. There is no difference what-so-ever between NDP and Liberal. Inevitably, socialism become communism.
