Haze hangs over city  on Sunday, leading to an Air Quality Advisory  which remains in effect this morning.

Prince George, B.C.- The air quality advisory  which came into effect yesterday, continues this morning, with an update expected around 9:30 this morning.

Based on the air quality data, the high levels are mainly due to combustion emissions (smoke). Very dry stagnant conditions over the region resulted in particulates accumulating in the air shed. Particulate levels are expected to gradually decrease over the next 24 hour periods. There may be a possibility of relief this even as thunder showers are forecast over the region. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 30 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site and 21 µg/m3 at College Heights at 4:00 pm. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 40 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 31 µg/m3 at BCR and 27 µg/m3 at College Heights.

The Air Quality objective for fine particulates (PM2.5) is 25 µg/m3 for a 24 hour average. Residents should be aware that advisories are only issued when the air quality objective is exceeded but that the majority of adverse health effects are due to long term exposure to particulate matter starting at levels well below 25 µg/m3

Residents are reminded that the City’s Clean Air Bylaw prohibits the use of wood-burning appliances, except for Sole Wood Burning Heat Users, and that open burning; including backyard burning and land clearing burning is banned during Air Quality Advisories. Please note that this advisory also prohibits recreational fires and street sweeping activities. Industry is asked to reduce emissions wherever possible during the air quality advisory.

It has been so hot in the last few days that everyone started using their wood burning appliances again from the looks of it.

Rather than just taking the standard form 3B2 media release, how about someone interviewing someone to ask them specific to this situation ..... why? what is the cause?
"It has been so hot in the last few days that everyone started using their wood burning appliances again from the looks of it"

LOL, good one gus :)
Yes it must be Wood Stoves , BQ and sweeping Driveways causing this Condition ?
Almost Gus.

The correct answer is that due to the hot weather, everyone is cooking outside on their recreational fires. The City expects a new Clean Air Bylaw banning this to rectify the problem.
Any slash burning going on in the surrounding area? If so, where would the clean air come from? Yesterday I smelled a lot of wood smoke in the Hart.
I drove west on Friday. There was a haze all the way from Prince George to past Houston. It was reminiscent of forest fire smoke drifting in from far away. We hit the first clearer sky in Smithers, and even there it was a bit hazy.

By Sunday it had cleared and was clear all the way back towards Prince George until we hit just after Mud River where on can see the Rockies on a clear day. Well, it was not "clear" around here.

The question as to what is the cause of this is a serious one on my part. Surely someone must know what the source of what seemed like a large presence of abnormal haze has been.
Checked the wildfire page for BC.

23,182 hectare fire at junction of Smith and Liard River. Spoted June 1 in Liard. Latest report from July 9 states there is still smoke in the area, no active fires suppression at this time, just being monitored.

2,035 hectare fire started June 11, just north of Spatsizi provincial park. There is no info available on that fire.
