New bridge  uses old piers,  but has a clean, lean look.

Prince George, B.C. - It won’t be long now. The Cameron Street bridge is on target to be completed by the middle of next month.

City hall staff confirm the builder (IDL) says the bridge will be complete mid August, but that doesn’t mean the bridge will be open to the public right away.

Today is the deadline for bids on an adjacent project. The tender calls for the replacement of the existing McMillan Creek Culvert  (see photo at right)
The tender specifies the work will consist of “a single  span bridge consisting of precast prestressed box girders with a cast-in-place concrete deck. A walkway under the bridge as well as tie-ins with Prince George Pulpmill Road are also required.”

The 2009 capital plan has just over $2 million dollars for this project.

Could not both of these projects have proceeded at the same time to minimize the traffic disruption. Silly me! I forgot, the City is looking after the planning.
No kidding
We could have done it for half the price if we could have gotten off out tush. What really bothers me is the way it was closed. Smaller vehicles should have been able to use the bridge all that time it sat dormant. One day it was ok for large loaded rigs and the very next day it wasn't safe for a VW bug? That was stupidity and only resulted in tearing up 5th ave from heavy traffic.
then next year they will have to repair all the damage to the traffic circle because 100 foot b-train chip trucks will pound it hard.
They will also find that there is no room for snow removal and that there is not enough room for the trucks to build speed before going up the highway on ramp so many will be stuck on the hill.
Now that's Prince George for ya! Lower mainland city planners for the north. They'll be planting pretty trees and shrubs around it pretty soon.
Yup! The chip truck square dance on the roundy-round at -20C. Can't wait!!!
Well I think it will be dangerous for the 4-wheelers blending in with the b-trains cutting into blind spots and such, but I'm sure the b-trains will be able to make the corner for a straight through, but not so sure about the merge lane to the highway in winter, or going from the pulp mills back to river road... I'm going to withhold judgment until its complete, because I must admit it looks a lot nicer than I thought it would and in a way changes the whole look of that part of town.
