"It's quite an alarming rate, fairly high for a weekend here (Prince George) and we want people to be aware there are other options to hopping in their vehicles and driving home."
That's RCMP Staff-Sergeant Doug Aird commenting on the first Counter-Attack campaign of the the Christmas season. Aird says between Friday evening and early this morning, officers with the City Detachment laid seven charges of impaired driving and handed out twelve 24-hour suspensions.
Aird points out those statistics don't reflect the weekend total, as a number of charges and prohibitions were also handed out by the traffic enforcement teams based out of the North District Detachment.
Is it discouraging that some local drivers seem to be missing the "don't drink and drive message"? "It is somewhat," says Aird, "We'd really like to, hopefully, put an end to this. Counter-Attacks will be continuing throught the Christmas season, they'll be increasing, and just let those that want to drink and drive be aware they'll be checked and stopped."
