When a human bone discovered in Fort George Park last spring was found to be non-contemporary, it sparked meetings between the City of Prince George and the Lheidli T'enneh Band.

The bone had been found near the First Nation's traditional cemetary in the park and band members met with City officials to determine a course of action to address the recovery and interment of the human bone and any other remains.

As a result, an archaeological was hired to excavate the area where the bone was found this fall.  The two groups are now meeting to decide if additional fieldwork will be necessary in proximity to the Lheidli T'enneh Cemetary.

The Band and the City of Prince George are reminding city residents the cemetary is an active one and is sacred to the Lheidli T'enneh People, and they're asking the public to respect the traditional, culture and historical importance of the cementary.

No word on when a decision regarding further archaeological work will be made.
