PG Cancer Clinic Safe From Health Cuts

As you watch the events of recent weeks unfold you get the distinct feeling that Kevin Falcon, former highways minister and now Minister of Health, is not in the running to take over the job of Premier when Gordon Campbell decides to throw in the towel.

Falcon has now announced that the government is cutting back on the amount of funding that it will provide to health care in the province. That is not the kind of move that will get you to the front of the class to take the old teachers job away.

The government is bent on coming in with a deficit that is as close as possible to the election pitch , which they have little hope of achieving. So you send Falcon out with the knife to perform an operation on the heath care system that will be met with a great deal of opposition. Not what you want to do if you’re trying to make yourself look top notch in the eyes of the public.

The cancer clinic is safe for Prince George. To try and either delay or postpone the construction of the facility would be met with some very strong opposition. Pat Bell and Shirley Bond were returned to office with healthy margins. Can the cancer clinic and the people of the central interior will be asking why, only it won’t be in such a quiet manner.

So health care is going to see some cuts, a start at the top of the administration will be a good start, that should be done without any cuts to the people who actually treat the sick and the injured.

We already don’t have the best health care system in all of BC. Accessing a cancer clinic is already  an issue, but believe me the list of problems in people trying to access the system does not end there.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.
