Quesnel Bans Open Fires

Quesnel, B.C. – A Category 1 open fire ban will be in effect for the City of Quesnel starting at noon on Friday, July 24. This is keeping in step with a ban put in place by the Cariboo Fire Centre. That ban does not apply to municipalities, so the City determined it would take similar action, acting on the advice of the Deputy Fire Chief.
A Category 1 open fire ban prohibits the use of campfires and other backyard open fires, such as those in fire pits.
"We are being proactive and working to protect public safety, while reducing the potential for person-caused wildfires," said Mayor Mary Sjostrom. "We see the difficulties our neighbours around the province are having with fires and we don’t want any similar instances to happen here."
