Prince George, B.C.- Prince George City Council will be asked to consider a few of proposals that will have an impact on future budget considerations. The Mayor will present the City's response to a survey about policing costs. The survey shows there are concerns about the increase in costs, they have risen nearly 23% over the past five years, and more than 57% in the last ten.
The bid to host the 2015 Canada Winter Games comes with a total price tag of $650 thousand dollars, and that does not include upgrades to any facilities. While the largest chunk of that money would have to come once the host City is announced, the bid process carries a price tag of $250 thousand dollars.
The Prince George Ice Oval Society has prepared a report that calls for the hiring of a site manager and maintenance staff. The two positions would add $40 thousand dollars to the Oval Society’s budget, and that is money the Society doesn’t have. The Ice oval Society proposes user fees, and no centre ice rink.
Also on the agenda, the draft of the proposed hotel tax that would add 2% to the cost of a hotel room for visitors from out of town.
Council will receive a report on options available now that the owner of 255 Quebec street has missed the deadline for demolition and clean up of that site. The owner had indicated he planned to file for a court injunction to prevent the city from tearing down the building.

Can Prince George recover the 650 thousand dollars - plus upgrades? Or would it be more cost effect to just put a simmilar amount into recreational upgrades/programs?
While it is uplifting to host events, the time has come to really look at cost-benifit ratios. Like the 2010 games, I do not think the numbers are there.
Don't pass of policing, health and other structural costs as nothings. Money spent on hosting an event is money lost to other opportunities.
