Prince George, B .C. – The President and CEO of the Canfor Pulp Limited Partnership says the first project he would like to see approved under the Government’s new black liquor Green Plan is the boiler recovery project at Northwood Pulp. “This project so fits what the government wants” says Paul Richards. “It is energy efficient, reduces particulates and odour.”
Richards says there are other projects at the other mills which also fit the criteria, including the upgrades to turbo generators which would reduce the use of fossil fuels.
The Government is expected to announce approval of projects late this year, with funding available in the first quarter of 2010. The Federal Government announced the plan in June, setting aside a total of   $1 billion dollars to the pulp and paper industry for “green” projects.
The Canfor Pulp Limited Partnership is developing a list of projects it believes match the funding requirements “The boiler recovery project at Northwood is at the top of my list” says Richards.

Makes sense when they have more hog then they can handle to go forward with a project that utilizes this abundant split off product and create some value from it. Its too bad they couldn't regionalize some of these projects though to places like Mackenzie, Vanderhoof, Huston ect... place where the hog bi-product is produced to reduce the shipping costs and make the projects more viable.
great to see that they are going to reduce particulate and odor these boilers were supposed to have upgrades as early as 1996 so its good to see that they are finally going to go ahead(hopefully) as this will be for the benefit of the community
Might not reduce much since northwood is quite a ways from downtown.
why could they not start up the boilers at the mills in Mackinzie and add some steam powered generator and make electricity.
