Prince George BC – Police have now released the address of a grow- op that was busted on July 27th in the city.

“D”  watch members  raided a home in the 6900 block of O’Grady Rd  finding over 1200 Marihuana plants  in various stages of growth.

Police say this operation was “fairly sophisticated”. Police say operations of this nature are generally the direct result of individuals working for organized crime groups.

No one has been arrested at this time, as the investigation continues.

Leagalize it and tax it. HST would be gone out the window!
Tear the house down like they do in Surrey (or at least sell it to pay for the court and police costs)
Organized Crime would never allow pot to become legalized as it is to big a cash cow for themselves.
I doubt legalization would happen. Governments wouldn't profit as much as everybody thinks. People would grow their own or buy it from friends rather than buy the government stuff -- it would be much cheaper. Think about it.
People are too lazy to grow their own. Look at beer and wine. Sales are still way up.
And so what if they do grow it? Does it bother anyone else? I think those plants are a real nice garden shrub.
I personally don't care who grows what, I just think people would largely avoid the government-issued pot if it were legal.

Beer and wine are harder and more time-consuming to make, and comparible in cost when buying it at the liquor store (if you take into account your time spent).
The prohibition of marijuana has nothing to do with taxes or potential harm. There are two reasons it is illegal.

1) Ralph Randall Hearst, a paper and lumber baron in the early 1900's became aware that the weeds growing throughout the rural areas of the states actually produced a better quality cellulose than wood cellulose. Being as he had vast holdings of wood lots, this threatened his wealth. So he went to his political buddies that he had supported in their campaigns and had them legislate the weed to be illegal.

2) During the 1960's, race relations in the states were still hot and the hippies were becoming more common. It is because it was known that "coloreds", Mexicans and hippies were users of cannabis, they could use an existing law to arrest and detain these people on the slightest pretense, the possession of an illegal substance. Population control is what it is about.

Let's not forget that the USA repealed the prohibition of hemp during WWII because of the superior rope made from hemp, which is actually a cousin of the smokeable stuff with far less of the active ingredient. As soon as the war was over, prohibition.

They lied straight to the American public about the hazards of consuming this product. Remember "Reefer Madness". If you don't, then download and watch as soon as you can. It is so hysterically funny, especially when one considers that the masses actually believed it.

Of course, in the past, what ever the USA said was what Canada did. That is how and why it is illegal in Canada today.
Change the laws the whole damn country has been begging to smoke the weed so let them. Whats wrong with people anyways..
Hey gus, you are good at pulling data.
What are the percentage numbers of users in Canada?
What's the address like it says in the headline? There is more than one house in the 6900 block O'Grady. Nothing akin to "truth in advertising" when it comes to any headlines?
Go look at the 6900 block of O’Grady Rd, all the homes that are in use are not it, leaving the one that is it.

To you people who say the government wouldn't make any money because people would grow it themselves... the easy solution to that is to make it legal to buy at a store, but illegal to make yourself. Like hard liquor, for instance.
Don't bogart that joint my friend
Wolfie, Wolfie, Wolfie.... "legal to buy at a store, but illegal to make yourself". You just have to remember Rule Number One. It is only against the law if you get caught. Like riding an unlicensed trail bike on the road, buying a fish from a First Nations person, speeding, hunting or fishing without a license, selling stolen goods, tax evasion. And on and on. You get the picture, doncha?
