Nearly a Dozen New Fires in Cariboo Fire Centre

WILLIAMS LAKE – Since Monday, the Cariboo Fire Centre has responded to 11 new fires in the region, three of which are fires of note.

The first fire of note is located approximately 18 kilometres south east of Kersley. The fire is currently 3 hectares in size and is currently being actioned by 36 firefighters. A helicopter is also on site. In order to limit the growth of the fire, airtankers have been used to establish a retardant guard on the fire perimeter.

A 150 hectare lightning caused fire is burning 30 kilometres north east of Anahim Lake. Although the smoke from this fire may be visible to Anahim Lake, the fire is currenly not a threat to any structures or communities. There are currently firefighters suppressing this fire and they are being supported by helicopters. Airtankers have also been utilized to limit the fire growth. This morning a fire suppression plan will be developed for this fire, as it is burning within a modified response area.

The third fire of significance is located east of Penfold airport and is currently estimated at 150 hectares in size. An air tanker was used on Tuesday to drop retardant on the fire, and helicopters have been used to cool the fire by bucketing it with water. Today over 40 firefighters are working to contain the fire and are being supported by three helicopters.
