Prince George, B.C.- A 42 year old man is in custody and will appear in court this week following an incident at McLeod Lake.
RCMP say they got a 9-1-1 call around noon yesterday about a man with a rifle who had left a residence and fired several shots in the vicinity of two summer students hired to complete landscaping in the community.
Several rounds hit their equipment, just a few feet away from the students. The male re-entered the residence.
The area was contained by members of the Mackenzie Detachment. The North District Emergency Response Team, two trained police negotiators, the Police Dog Service, the RCMP's Air 4 helicopter, a police boat from Mackenzie Detachment and a boat from the Conservation Officer Service of BC, were all called in to assist.
Many attempts to speak with the male were unsuccessful. At 9:08 last night, the Emergency Response Team entered the residence and took the male into custody without further incident. He remains in custody with several charges pending including utter threats and various weapons offences. His name will not be released until he appears in court.
The RCMP say they are thankful for the members of the public who assisted in providing vital information which helped bring this highly volatile situation to a peaceful end. In addition, they offer a thank you to the Conservation Officer Service for assisting.
