Debora Munoz taking the Oath of Office in City Council Chambers last night

"It's very exciting, it is my first time being elected to public office.  It's now official."

So says new-kid-on-the-block, Debora Munoz.

With two incumbent councillors (Dan Rogers and Cliff Dezell) not running in the November Municipal election, returning Councillor Shirley Gratton and Munoz were able to secure the final two seats on City Council.  Munoz captured 5,497 votes her first time out, narrowly edging candidate Ryan Yorston by 46 votes.

The health professional says she's ready to get to work.  "We are jumping right into budget deliberations, so that's going to be a lot of number-crunching over the next two months."  She says, "We'll be receiving an approximately 600-page document, so I'll be doing a lot of reading, a lot of reviewing, a lot of assessing various departments and their budgets."

Munoz admits there's going to be a steep learning curve, but says she's ready for the challenge and is excited about working with "the team".
