More Fires Sparked by Lightning

Prince George, B.C.- Lightning is responsible for causing over 40 new fires starts in the Prince George Fire Centre.
The largest of these lighting fires is 100 hectares. Multiple resources are en route to the fires and plans are being made to prioritize each new fire. Life and property are of the highest priority, along with safety of all crews and personnel.
There are currently 20 initial attack crews, 80 contract fire fighters, 18 air craft, and two tanker groups, one in Prince George and one in Fort St. John, in our fire centre. All resources are being utilized throughout the fire centre with the highest possible efficiency. The forest service is actively running patrols in order to detect any new fires.
The fire danger rating remains high in the Prince George Fire Centre with areas of extreme in the Vanderhoof and Prince George zones. With the increase in lightning-caused fires B.C. Forest Service says it is crucial that resources be utilized for these natural caused fires.
Earlier today, the Premier held a special news conference calling on all British Columbians to stay out of the back country this weekend and restrict their camping and out door activities to provincial or designated parks. He says with the fire threat so high there is no way public safety can be guaranteed if people head into the back country and a fire starts.
