PRINCE GEORGE –– The Prince George Fire Centre responded to 46 new fires over the long weekend, almost all caused by lightning.
Of the 46 new fires there are three fires of note. The Manson Creek fire is 4.5 miles southwest of Manson Creek. The fire is 150 hectares in size and the community has been put on evacuation alert. Crews on scene are working well to put in hose lines around the east and west sides and air tankers will be used today to support the east side.
A fire 9 km southwest of McBride reached 4.6 hectares in size. Due to steep terrain it was difficult to get crews on site but 10 fire fighters are now progressing well and the fire is 100 % guarded. A helicopter is being used for support.
Philip Creek Fire, 40 km southwest of MacKenzie grew to 70 hectares. The fire is now 100% guarded and the two homes in the area are not threatened. There are 2 pieces of heavy equipment on the fire and 20 fire fighters.
The fire danger rating is moderate to extreme in the Prince George Fire Centre. With the increase in lightning-caused fires it is crucial that resources be utilized for these natural caused fires.
