PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - A $7.8-million contract has been awarded to IDL Projects Inc. of Prince George for improvements to the Highway 16 - Domano/Tyner intersection.
The intersection is the worst in the city when it comes to crashes. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Shirley Bond says the project will improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists "This project will mean safer commuting, and will reduce wait
times at an intersection that is heavily relied upon by both residents and industry."
Dual left-turn lanes will be constructed on Highway 16, with dedicated left-turn signals. An acceleration lane will be added for drivers turning right onto Highway 16 from Domano Boulevard, and deceleration lanes for exiting onto Domano and Tyner Boulevards will be lengthened.
Intersection sightlines will be improved, raised medians installed and connections with cycling and walking trail networks within the project site will be completed.
Work on the intersection will begin this month, with completion this fall.

A reminder for the designers, it snows here, a lot.
Do they mean completion will be in the year 2009?
When are they going to complete the connector between Ospika and highway 16? That would bleed off some traffic.
It is the worst intersection in PG because the traffic is always crossing each lane's flow. This is a major highway intersection, it should be treated as such. In other words, cloverleaf.
