Prince George, B.C.- It’s official, the Cameron Street Bridge will be opened on August 24th.

As expected, the invitations to the official opening were issued late yesterday.

The Cameron Street Bridge has been out of commission since the fall of 2005 when it was deemed unsafe.

The new, two way bridge features a bike/pedestrian crossing and a round-about at the north end to accommodate traffic flow.

The Cameron Street Bridge is included in the City’s new Dangerous Goods Route bylaw which will take effect September 1st.

WOW! Only 4 years. Lets celebrate by spending more taxpayers money! How many years will the underpass take? How much longer will traffic be screwed up?
What are you talking about Denaljo? What underpass?

It will be great to have the bridge open again. I do believe however, that people are going to have to learn how to merge properly, in order to drive the traffic circle. A traffic circle is the best way to move traffic at an intersection (IMO), if people drive it properly!!

Wonder if Colin Kinsley got an invite, after all it was his baby, and if it turns out to be a bloody disaster (which is quite possible) then he should be the guy to take the blame.

It might be a grand opening like the Airport Runway Expansion, where the only people in attendence were the politicians, and some Airport employees.

I've missed having the bridge open and I am looking forward to being able to use it.
In fact I am very excited to have it back.
Are they going to toll it and make it mandatory for all commercial truck traffic?
YES!!! Thats five minutes off my commute each way!!
Big Wayne. It they tolled it everyone would use the other bridges. You cant force people not to use a Provincial highway or bridge.

Travism. You could be right, on the other hand you could be waiting five minutes to get into the Roundabout. Especially in the morning and at night.

In any event the saga is coming to an end, and we will see what happens after the 24th.
I am looking forward to using it again. It came in handy before and it will be useful again, to be sure.

It's just a bridge, two lanes now instead of one-way, i.e. safer and more convenient. Can't imagine how it would ever turn out to be a disaster, bloody or not.
Maybe Mr. Radloff can take some time off from his busy private consulting engineering practice to attend the grand opening.

Maybe he can explain to the press that the City has known about the poor condition of the McMillan Creek culverts for years.
"It’s official, the Cameron Street Bridge will be opened on August 24th. As expected, the invitations to the official opening were issued late yesterday"

Is this something that really needs to be celebrated with an "opening" and "invitations"? It's a freaking two lane bridge crossing the Nechako River at what is basically an alternate route. It seems we'll celebrate anything these days, LOL.
For 'taxinapothole' I was refering to the MacMillan Creek underpass or bridge that they have planned.
I'm happy that they fixed the Cameron St bridge. Sharing 5th Ave. with all the industrial traffic can sure be scary some days.

I just have to laugh at some people that don't think it's needed. More often than not, these are the people that live on the West side of town.

Oh, the complaining there would be if Highway 16 West was only two lanes, or Ospika was only two lanes.

The other point that people forget is that hopefully PG will grow someday.....I know it might be 2080 before that happens. But having river crossings that spread the flow of traffic around is a good thing and will make our City more attractive.

Bring on the next project to make our City a nice place to live.....

"Sharing 5th Ave. with all the industrial traffic can sure be scary some days"

Just wait until you share a roundabout with them in the middle of January :)
This should be a little more dangerous for those fools on bikes who insist on comming down the hill on the left side of the road and entering the one way traffic going up the hill. I see it every day. Death ride.
MWK. Have fun sharing the round a bout with loaded and empty chip trucks, gasoline tankers, Hydrogen Peroxide tankers, and regular 53ft trailers.

I betting that most passenger vehicles will go back to using 5th and the bypass to avoid the congestion and confusion that will be taking place at the North end of the Cameron St., bridge.

At the very least traffic will be seriously delayed during rush hour, in the morning and evening.
Those fools on bikes are virtually forced to do that because there is nothing for them to share the road. That is the most direct route downtown from the hart. If you are being environmentally conscious and living a fit lifestyle, it takes a lot of work. After riding 9.2 km down the hiway, having to go all the way around by central and fifth is a lot of work.

Being as there is just bitching about this project, where are the bike lanes for the new bridge? What about a bike lane along north nechako all the way to the mill? Is there even a bike lane on the brand new bridge or did city hall do another half assed job on that to?
