District 57 School Board Trustees take the Oath of Office & Oath of Allegiance
It is no surprise that Bill Christie was elected by acclamation to chair the School District 57's Board of Trustees at this evening's inaugural session. Christie has won the position by acclamation ever since outgoing Chair Shirley Bond stepped down to enter provincial politics.
It may have come as a surprise to the incumbents that Trustee Lyn Hall was not re-elected to the Vice-Chair position, as has been the case following the past two municipal elections. Michelle Marrelli put Hall's name forward.

But newcomer Sharel Warrington nominated Lois Boone for the post and Boone agreed to let her name stand, as well. That forced a vote and, although the exact tally was not released, Bill Christie declared Boone elected by the majority.
Boone finished third in the November 19th election, behind just Christie and Hall, with a total of 9,890 votes cast her way. During the campaign, she criticized the Board for failing to take a tough stance with Victoria on issues like funding and the teachers' dispute. She's promising to make Victoria understand this is a district that needs to be listened to, saying students are the future and deserve better.
It appeared there would also need to be a vote on the Board's representative to the B.C. School Trustees Association. As Lois Boone put Roxanne Ricard's name forward and then Lyn Hall nominated Michelle Marrelli. Marrelli had been the rep prior to the election, but she declined to let her name stand this evening.
Board Chair, Bill Christie, wrapped up the meeting saying that although the trustees come from different backgrounds and areas of expertise, it's his hope they'll all work together on the common, key goal of student achievement.
